NO, planet Earth is not going to explode, BUT if the politicians and people in general continue not to take things seriously, climatic change is going to cause, and with absolute guarantee, an unimaginable disaster, and it may even happen that the planet will change its orbit. Meaning the end of life on Earth.

THE EXPLANATION

The tropical forest, far away though they are, have a profound influence on life on Earth, although few people realize this. Their systematic, planned destruction is the real cause of today's climatic change, with disastrous consequences for the whole world.

Let´s first examine their influence on local continental climates, taking Africa as an example.

Rain Forests, Fountain of life | Bosques tropicales, Fuente de vida

When the winds from the Atlantic, charged with humidity, encounter the forest, turbulence is created and rain falls. This water is evaporated by the forest, forming clouds which the winds carry further inland. The clouds are progressively saturated by evaporation from the forest until rain falls again. This water is again evaporated, forms clouds, etc.

Thus, where the forest exists, the rainwater is repeatedly recycled, not only maintaining humidity within the forest areas, but rainwater recycled from the forest reaches far beyond the limits of the forests.

When the forest is devastated, this small miracle of Nature is interrupted, and here is the cause of the enormous droughts Africa has known since the first megadrought in Ethiopia in the 80's. Big rivers like the Niger and the Limpopo ran completely dry for the first time in memory.

The same has happened in Brazil, where large populations lacked even drinking water, as well as in other Southamerican countries.

President Lula da Silva of Brazil, the presidents of the two Congos, Nsasso Ngesso, and Joseph Kabila, as well as the leaders of many other countries in America, Africa and Asia, who are allowing the destruction of their forests, are effectively destroying and ruining their own countries for a pity of money and popularity hoy, and assuring their future control by foreign powers.

But still worse, they are creating today's climatic change and putting the whole world in danger.

The decisive influence of the tropical forests on local continental climates is well documented and recognized. They also have a crucial influence on the world climate, and this is less well known. We appear to know more about planet Mars than about our tropical forests.

The enormous importance of the tropical forests, distinct from more northerly forests, is derived from the fact that they are situated in the equatorial belt, where all the wind systems of the planet are born, and where the planet receives the maximum of solar energy, and to the enormous volume of the dense mass of trees, often 30 - 40 m tall.

The tropical forests function as enormously efficent heat sinks, absorbing the solar energy during the day, slowly releasing it as heat during the night. Thus, where the forest exists, the difference between day and night temperatures is small, 20 - 22ºC during the night, 27 - 28ºC during the day, while in nearby savannah areas day temperature often reach 45ºC or more, while nights can be quite cool.

Savannah, the end | Sabana, el final

As the temperature, or energy, gradient between day and night is very small, strong winds are not created. In the tropical forests strong winds as in Europe are totally unknown. The tropical forests thus have very much the same effect as the sea in the equatorial belt.

Much of the heat energy absorbed and then reselased by the tropical forests during the mostly windless nights disappears into space and does not contribute to the warming of the planet. This is enormously important.

I recall what was said previously, on the equator there is little wind movement, and what there is is weak. When the forest is devastated and the land is converted into savannahs, pasture or soybean cultures all this changes. The soil and the short vegetation which substitutes the 30 - 40 m tall trees have very little capacity to store energy.

Instead it now functions like a mirror, reflecting nearly all the solar energy received during the day directly back into the air above, causing intense heating of the atmosphere.

The energy which previously was stored by the forest and slowly released towards space during the night, and was thus lost from the planet, is now added to the warming of Earth's atmosphere. This new injection of energy into the world's atmosphere now causes stronger and warmer winds.

With the destruction of the tropical forest, not only are stronger and hotter winds caused during the day, but a strong energy diferential is created between hot days and cool nights, further accelerating wind movements.

The strong warm winds created following the disappearence of the forest in the equatorial belt frequently by-pass the normal Hadley cells, or convection belts, reaching even all the way to the poles, sometimes even displacing arctic air masses, pushing them down over America and Europe.

In Spain for example, according to information from the University of Granada, wind strength has increased some 50% during the last 10 years. Winds are at the same time getting warmer and warmer due to more and more tropical forest destruction.

Here is the true cause of at least most of today's climatic change.
